Apple Is Developing Its Own Search Engine That Will Go Up Against Google
A new report by the Financial Times reported that Apple has accelerated work to develop its own search engine that will allow the iPhone maker to offer an alternative to Google. Apple already has the Applebot web crawler to index and build the databases for web searches. It is also important to note that Apple has recently hired former Google’s head of search John Giannandrea. The report said that signs of the search engine technology have already begun to appear in its iOS 14 operating system. This move comes amid an antitrust lawsuit on Google over its market dominance in the search technology. During the lawsuit, the Department of Justice also noted that Google pays Apple billions of dollars to be the default search engine on all Apple devices.
