The Case Of Hydroxychloroquine

There is no proven cure for treating COVID-19. However, there are a couple of medicines that are being used to treat the symptoms of COVID-19. One of them is Hydroxychloroquine. Hydroxychloroquine has been in limelight ever since President Trump declared it a miracle drug. However, It took a backseat due to the Lancet study which said that Hydroxychloroquine increases the chances of mortality instead of decreasing it. The stocks of companies that manufacture Hydroxychloroquine took a nosedive following the publication of the study. This put the manufacturers in a tight spot. However, The study was later taken with a pinch of salt due to doubts that the authors turned a blind eye to the fact that the entire study relied on data from a single company. The authors later retracted the study acknowledging that their data was not verified. This meant that the manufacturers finally weathered the storm. However, there is still no substantive evidence backing the ability of Hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 patients. In the meantime, Pharmaceutical companies continue to zero in on developing a cure for COVID-19.
