US Blocks Pakistan's Effort To Term Indian Terrorist
The United States has formally informed all members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that it was blocking a proposal to proscribe an Indian National by the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee. Venu Madhav Dongara, an engineer working in Afghanistan is one of the four Indian nationals that Pakistan has linked with terror attacks in its territory. Pakistan was hoping to get Venu listed as a global terrorist by the UNSC with support from China. The US in September put the proposal on hold expecting Pakistan to produce evidence against Venu. However, Pakistan has failed to produce any substantive evidence. Thus, The US terminated the proposal. If Pakistan still chooses to target Venu, It will have to seek a new proposal. It is likely that Pakistan is trying to list Venu as a global terrorist in retaliation to the listing of Masood Azhar as a global terrorist last year.
